Building Philanthropy in a New Community

As soon as Brownie and Tom Watkins settled into their Lancaster County home
from Dallas five years ago, they became immersed in our local volunteer scene including Tom with Habitat for Humanity and Brownie with Partners for Lancaster County Schools. They also made inquiries about RCCF because they were considering moving their Dallas Community Foundation Donor Advised Fund here if we met their expectations of a successful and well run organization. And, we did!

Emphasizing Margaret Nost’s role as a “great advisor” in negotiating the transfer of their fund from Dallas in 2011, they said, “The transaction was a very simple operation and RCCF’s status as an affiliate of The Community Foundation in Richmond made it a doubly effective move.” Supplementing their Donor Advised Fund, the Watkins have also established the Watkins Family Endowment Fund with RCCF as a beneficiary of their estate.

Tom and Brownie are both graduates of the University of Kentucky. While Tom’s career continues as a founder and partner of Chartwell Partners, an executive search firm headquartered in Dallas, he also enjoys cycling and competitive sailing. Brownie’s interests include the Kilmarnock Garden Club, Chesapeake Academy and Grace Church. Dedicated to contributing in perpetuity to the quality of life where they live, they comment that they “feel fortunate to be in this beautiful place which attracts people from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in contributing to their community.” In full agreement, we welcome them and their enthusiastic participation.
